To meet the clients’ needs and adhere to the local city government’s historic review board, we designed a modest, two-story structure that maximized space without altering the home’s original charm. Keeping the existing driveway intact, we introduced an elevated connecting deck between the structures, creating two large, stunning entertainment spaces. The deck’s structure drew inspiration from the area’s historic railway bridges, with its famous X-bracing design, and was awarded approval from the local historical preservation department.
